Up and Running

You can’t outrun pain at mid life... or can you?

Well, I’m 53, and I’ve started running again… I mean running without pain.

In high school, I played sports at the varsity level and then continued playing for fun throughout my 20’s and 30’s.

But, in my 40’s the running and playing stopped. An old shoulder injury became a problem again and high intense activity was a "no go".

But, now here I am on the other side of 50, and I’ve have turned it up a notch. I'm jogging every day! No shoulder pain, no foot pain… no pain at all.

I credit the following for getting me up and running again:

Pilates

The reason why Pilates works is that it treats the body as a whole.  Everything in the body is connected.  So if you have foot pain, you don’t just treat the foot…you treat the entire body that is connected to that aching foot.  Realigning the body will help the foot function better.   So, it is most effective and enduring to treat the whole body to correct the overall imbalance and misalignment. The Egoscue Method

The reason why the Egoscue Method works is that the exercises are so simple and accessible that everyone can do them at home in minutes.  Doing these poses every day is a quick and easy way to let the body release and relax back into optimal alignment.  I offer 15-minute workouts that include Egoscue exercises at TheBalanceMovement.com.

Anti-inflammatory diet

As we age, disease causing inflammation can be our biggest enemy.  The older we are, the bigger our toxic load and the more inflammation in the body.  Inflammation is pain.  So, eating a clean diet that does not cause inflammation is the key to staying active. Check out my recipes.

Compression tights

I love my 2XU compression tights.  They are made with medical grade compression fabric that hugs the muscles tight to the bone to prevent oscillation during vigorous motion.  This improves circulation and improves performance while keeping inflammation down.  They look great and feel great, which motivates me to get out there and run!

Fish oil

As we age, we need to supplement with Omega 3 oils to fight inflammation.  I like Nordic Naturals COMPLETE OMEGA because it works for me.  It has borage seed oil for the skin, joint and brain… I need that!

The human body was designed to run.  The Pose Method shows you how to run with correct alignment.  With the correct alignment, you will run faster, farther with less wear and tear on the body.
